Last Chance: Claim Your £2,500 of Government Funding for High Speed Internet

According to the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) more than 7,000 UK businesses like yours have already signed up to the Gigabit Voucher Scheme which is aimed at helping business owners advance their technologies, raise their competitive position and increase productivity.

Technologies are seen as the driving factor behind SMEs growing and succeeding and many are now migrating towards Cloud-based services and applications, VOIP Telephony and Disaster Recovery solutions, which each rely on high performance, reliable and secure Internet connections.

Whether your business is in this position now or will be in the near future – or perhaps you are simply looking to get better value out of your current contract for business connectivity – this funding is worth applying for. But be quick, given the confirmed take-up, it is unlikley to last much longer.

What type of connection does the funding cover?

There is a key myth relating to the scheme which we are regularly asked to confirm by customers – that being does the Internet connection need to be Gigabit speed? This is not the case and connections of 100Mbps + can also be funded under the scheme.

According to the .gov website, 95% of the UK is still running at speeds of 24Mbps which is quite simply going to hold any ambitious or successful SME back from achieving its full potential. A fibre connection funded through this scheme will ensure a small to medium sized business (SMB) can benefit from speeds of 100Mbps, 200Mbps, 500Mbps or 1Gbps – opening up new doors to compete better, work more efficiently and attract new customers.

The popularity of the scheme means it’s likely to end sooner than expected, prompting the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) to issue a statement ‘urging business owners to take advantage now before they miss out.’

How much can you claim?

Initially the funding pot was worth £67million which was dedicated to achieving the government’s goal of creating a ‘full-fibre Britain’. This funding offers Small to Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs) a sum of £2,500 to fund an upgrade to high speed internet connectivity provided by a registered supplier to the scheme. To be eligible, you can be based anywhere in the UK, must have up to 249 employees and turnover less than £50 million.

How to access the funding

There has been a recent update showing that funding is very popular and is being allocated fast. The scheme is still live at present and will continue until it runs out. Timeframes for gaining approval however are impressive, taking 48 hours and often the same day in our experience, requiring just a short 2 minute application form to be completed to get started.
