2017 was a successful year for Unify´s All-In-One Voice & Unified Communications Solution for SMB OpenScape Business, and to continue this momentum they are already in development of their next software version (planned release end of May 2018). This release focuses 100% on the fulfillment customer values in the area of Unified Communications client enhancements, a new common UC client, enhanced redundancy options, serviceability improvements, and more.
The new OpenScape Business Software Release V2R5 will include the following highlights:
Unified Communications Software Enhancements: It will be now possible to have your UC presence change automatically in the event of a PC shutdown or desktop log out, a new “away from keyboard” indication if users are not at their desk, Single Hotkey (Desktop Dialling) option including new quick search functionality and much more in the area of their Attendant and Contac Centre Agent software client.
New Common UC Client: Get excited about their new UC software client providing a common GUI for our Desktop applications with a fresh, scalable look and feel. Based on the latest technology, the new common client so-called myPortal @work also offers other benefits, such as an easy migration path from older versions, one step installation, different views and many more usability highlights. The first step is planned with V2R5 and there is more to come, such as integrated VoIP, on their Roadmap 2018, delivering continuous developments with later software releases.
Enhanced Redundancy for IP Telephony: As requested, redundancy for IP Telephony between multiple OpenScape Business models is now possible, combined with a new OpenScape Business Redundancy User license. With this new concept, we are providing many more opportunities and scenarios fulfilling customer needs.
General Improvements: For customer convenience, it will be possible to export the external UC Suite directory, making it easier for customers to back up their user directory.
Call Reporting and Analytics: Everything Voice has invested in our own Cloud based Call Reporting and Analytics platform for Unify platforms. This application connects to your Unify platform and gives you access to a range of historic reports and real time wall boards. With no upfront software or hardware cost and just a low monthly cost from £29, elevate your Unify platform to new productivity heights.
Improved Teamwork: As employees becoming more and more mobile, with the new flexible device user handling, so-called MULAP in Groups, it is possible to have a better group handling for those customers using their desktop phone combined with a DECT or mobile phone.
Infrastructure: Now supporting Microsoft Windows 2016 Server with Citrix 7.6 environments.
What is our Opinion?
What this new release demonstrates is a software vendor really acting on the improvements which their customers a crying out for. The enhancements in their Unified Communications Software client is huge for existing users of Unify’s existing Unified Communications software, myPortal because of the new automated presence updates when a user has logged off their PC or is away from their desk. This will really complete the overall Presence proposition. Furthermore, a refreshed User interface will no doubt enhance usability. We are expecting to see easier transitions between different tabs and an overall easier to use experience similar to their Circuit tool.
The enhancement in resilience is very welcome. What we are now expecting to see is a method by which a customer can deploy a second or third Openscape Business in their network and allow either to take over the running of all users in case of failure. This will no longer require the host system to have sufficient licenses available (therefore no requirement to duplicate licenses) for the guest users as a result of their Resilience license.
Overall, a really good set of enhancements in this release and well worth the investment
