The Challenge
Plus, the cost of mobile data charges – sending data from the connected field devices to their destinations – had reached a point where it was becoming unfeasible, at almost £100,000 per annum.
Furthermore, the time to activate a new SIM could be as long as 2 days, which required stock of pre-activated SIMs ready to go at a moment’s notice, costing money before devices were even deployed!

The Solution
We found that each SIM had its own fixed allowance, which meant some SIM cards were overusing their data, leading to significant cost increases. Others were underusing their data allowance which further wasted resource invested in the SIMs.
“When Everything Voice first showed us how our SIMs were going over their allowances and the charges attached, our jaws dropped. But they didn’t just take the easy win, they kept digging and found some SIMs didn’t need as much data as we were led to believe.”
Now that the root cause was identified, we recommended a ‘Mobile Data Pool’, from which each SIM card could pull as much, or as little, data as they required. This meant that almost no data was wasted and there was little risk of any one SIM card producing significant overage charges.
To ensure they had better visibility and control over its SIMs, we also provided access to our SIM Management platform, Mobile Manager, where admins could access their stock of SIMs and activate them online in 60 minutes.
The Results
Without our new Pooled Data solution, end-user costs may have required an increase, so by saving the business money, they have been able to stay more competitive, keeping prices static.
Furthermore, Loss Prevention and stock accuracy has been strengthened via Mobile Manager and not stocking pre-activated SIM cards. Meaning the businesses is no longer losing money by having up to a week’s worth of costs accrued, even before sending the SIM card to its destination.
